Dosage and Administration of Neuronox 100U
1. Blepharospasm
Blepharospasm injections are given with sterile 27-30 gauge needles, not guided by electromyography. A beginning dose of 1.25–2.5 U (0.05–0.1 mL volume at each site) is injected into the medial and lateral pre-tarsal oruli of the upper lid, and into the orbicular pre-tarsal oruli of the lower cover. The treatment’s positive effects would become apparent three days later. There should be no more than 200 U of NEURONOX given in total throughout the course of 30 days.
2. Pediatric cerebral palsy
NEURONOX, used to treat cerebral palsy in children, is injected twice into the medial and lateral heads of the gastrocnemius muscles using sterile needles measuring 26-30 gauge. When treating the gastrocnemius muscle in patients with hemiplegia, a total dose of 4U / kg body weight is advised. Additionally, the standard dose for patients with diplegia is 6U / kg of body weight, split evenly between the two legs. Doses of more over 200 U per patient should be avoided.
3. Glabellar wrinkles
NEURONOX is reconstituted with sterile, non-preserved 0.9% saline solution to yield 200 U/5.0 mL (4 U/0.1 mL). Two spots on the corrugating muscle for each eye and one point on the procero muscle (for a total of 5 sites with 0.1 ml per site) are injected with 20 U of NEURONOX using a 30 gauge needle. Getting botulinum injected near the levator muscle of the upper eyelids can cause ptosis, or drooping eyelids. NEURONOX’s effects on glabellar lines typically last between three and four months.
4. Muscle spasticity
Dosage differs from patient to patient based on factors such as muscle size, location, degree of spasticity, presence of local muscle weakness, and response to prior treatment. Muscle tone improves after 4 to 6 weeks of training.
In controlled clinical trials, the following doses are administered:
- A maximum of 4 sites at 100-200U in the biceps brachii
- 15-50U: 1-2 spots on the flexor digitorum profundus
- Tendonitis of the Flexor Digitorum Sublimis 15-50U: 1-2 locations
- 15-60U: 1-2 sites in the flexor carpi radialis
- 10-50U Flexor Carpi Ulnaris: 1-2 Locations
